How Can You Prevent Water Damage In Santa Rosa?

One of the most common questions we get asked at Bravo Restoration is how can water damage be prevented? While there is no way to completely prevent water damage from occurring, there are some things you can do to help stay on top of water damage and resolve issues that could lead to water damage before it becomes a serious problem. We are going to share with you some preventative steps you can take in your Santa Rosa home to keep you from needing water damage restoration.

Water Damage Restoration In Santa Rosa

  • Check pipe connections and joints under sinks and anywhere else that you can see them make sure that the connections are tight and that no water is leaking from joints.
  • Install a water pressure gauge to monitor the pressure going into your home and through your pipes. Increased water pressure inside pipes can lead to leaks and bursts, so by utilizing a water pressure gauge you can ensure the pressure in your pipes stays between 60 and 70 psi.
  • Clean out drains in sinks, tubs, showers, and dishwashers to avoid build-up that can lead to clogs. Clogged drains cause water to back up and flood into your home.
  • Schedule routine maintenance inspections on your water heater, according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. When excess sediment builds up inside your water heater tank, it can cause the tank to spring a leak which means water will flood out all over your home.
  • Check the pressure gauge on your water heater tank and ensure that it stays within limits. If you notice the pressure is too high, turn the heat setting down a little bit. If that doesn’t fix the problem, call to get your water heater serviced.
  • Perform visual inspections on the water supply hoses to your washing machine at least twice a year. Sometimes the hoses can get bent or pressed against the walls or the machines, impeding the flow of water. The connections on these hoses can become loosened over time, allowing water to leak out around them. It is also a good idea to replace these hoses every 3-5 years to avoid any cracks or leaks due to aging and use.
  • Check the caulk and sealing around sinks, toilets, tubs, showers, and windows to ensure that they are watertight and there is no separation, cracks, or peeling. These areas all need to be properly sealed to prevent water seepage from occurring. You can easily reapply caulk to areas that have pulled away or have started to peel.
  • Look for any signs of water damage or mold growth, such as; peeling or bubbling paint, mold growth on walls, floors, baseboards, and the ceiling. If you suspect there could be water damage or mold growth in your home, call to get it inspected right away. The sooner you catch and resolve water damage, the less the damage will be.

While we know there is no way to guarantee water damage will not occur, following these suggestions can help safeguard your home from the disasters associated with water damage and help you catch it sooner if it does occur.
